Virginia-based corporate disability inclusion best practice and benchmarking expert Disability:IN has announced plans to launch its acclaimed Disability Equality Index internationally.
The index measures corporate disability metrics and maturity through survey data across important categories such as culture and leadership, enterprise-wide access, employment practices, community engagement and supplier diversity. Amongst the regular participants in the index, which included 485 companies in 2023, are the likes of Amazon, Google, The Walt Disney Company, Unilever and UPS.
From this year, the Disability Equality Index will seek to benchmark disability inclusion efforts of multinationals operating in seven new countries — Brazil, Canada, Germany, India, Japan, the Philippines and the United Kingdom. This represents the culmination of a two-year pilot scheme involving 98 companies across 66 different countries.
In a media announcement, Disability:IN’s Executive Vice President of Strategy and Programs Russell Shaffer said, “In analyzing results from the nearly 100 companies that participated in the global pilot, it became clear that there’s a real, demonstrated need for a benchmarking tool that can be adapted for differing cultural contexts.”
